Guide for Solasta: Crown of the Magister - DLC Campaign (2024)

Start the game. Open the four boxes and take everything. Equip anything you want and take three consecutive short rests to attune to anything you need. Open settings and make sure you have the right difficulty on. I had been reset to the fight with the Redeemers. Make sure you use your long term buffs and advance pass the statue into an ambush. These guys are a little tougher than the bandits in the Badlands. Loot them and leave.

Arriving at the Einarium, you can grab some minor loot before you head inside. Loot the flowers if you want and go directly across to the opposite side. Talk to Sunblaze here. Head west (right).

Check the bookcases here and in the library for some recipes and history. Continue to the bedchamber. Check your prepared spells. Leave and Sunblaze will give you your mission. Back out to the garden and talk to Vigdis here. She'll be important. Talk to the merchants. The gear you picked up may have reset to unidentified, so cast identify to sell it for a better price. Don't forget a druidic focus for a ranger without one. If you imported, you probably have lots to sell. The ingredients merchant is wonderful. If you have cash, buy a lot of his stuff. I was also happy to find a +1 javelin. You will want the Ring of Detect Invisbility - note that it doesn't require attunement. Leave north for Kaupaapunki. Vigdis will join you. She must be protected. She seems to be a 9th level battle cleric, but without spiritual weapon or Spirit Guardians. She still has Magic Missile and Fireball. You'll be interrupted at a bridge. Midway through the fight, a new Sorak caster will show up and summon a demon (Vrock). It's so cute, but it has a poisonous aura. Defeat all the enemies to earn

  • Facing your demons. Literally.

Take a short rest and cross to the campsite. There'll be a scene and you'll move on. You'll be introduced to the effects of cold weather. Have cold resistance/torches or stay close to a fire. You should give torches to your spellcasters during cold weather. Enter the fort. There's some interesting loot here. The merchants have much of the same stuff at higher prices, but I got a second +1 javelin. Visit the inn. Near the inn is a recipe merchant. Talk to the scavenger merchant as well and check their board. Note she has no reputation bonus with you. Talk to the innkeeper. Loot the chest and bookcase near your inn room. Follow your map to the keep. You'll do some talking and be taken to the funeral. Talk to Harld, then Sander, and finally Ragnhild. After that, return to Vigdis. Follow Misouk.

You'll escort Misouk to Necropolis, where you'll need to protect her. She seems to be a 9th-ish level rogue shadowcaster. She should do sneak attack damage with her cantrips, but that never seems to work for me. She can handle a turn at the frontline, but don't let her stay there. I recommend casting death ward on her. In the next chamber, you need to split the party to activate three runes at the same time. I recommend:

Center rune: (looks like an 'F') Cleric and Wizard
Right Rune: Paladin
Left Rune: Misouk and the last character

Cast Spirit Guardians before stepping on the runes. You'll be ambushed while separated. After the fight, enter the Vault and SAVE immediately. Looting either of the far side chests will decrease your reputation with Vigdis's clan. Look inside now, then reload and take anything that's worth the hit to reputation. For me the loot was really bad, so you could just skip this part. Open the center chest to get the quest item and leave. Return to Vigdis. It's time to find the hidden Sorak. Follow the map and talk to the people here until you decide to enter the mines. Rest if you need to, then go there. Buff and head forward. Saving enough of the dwarves from the assassins and spellcasters in this next fight will improve your relation with Vigdis's clan. Cast some light spells and enter the cave. Loot the boxes here for some good stuff and talk to Thad.

You'll face your first incubus here. He's not scary on his own, but can seize control of a party member. Stay around the paladin for buffs to your saves. The Vrockling, like the Vrock has a poisonous aura, as does the Hezrou. The Hezrou also has advantage on saves vs. spells. There's a battle mage, too. Defeat them! Vigdis will show up and invite you back to discuss the problem. Follow here.

After a scene, you'll talk to a dead man. Ask him "who put you in a cell?" to get the most information. He names Ragnhild; go to her room. Loot her chest. SAVE, as we have a choice with achievements for mutually exclusive outcomes coming up. Buff and go confront Ragnhild. Now, go through the gate. The enemies will target your vulnerable allies. Defeat the enemies and sentence Ragnhild to death to earn:

  • Let them eat cake

    Ragnhild is sentenced to death

RELOAD, and this time, sentence her to life imprisonment to earn

Continue with this save. With that resolved, head to the keep. After a scene with Vidgis, take the major gate to Violet's house. Look at her bookcases for some new crafting options. Talk to Violet and leave her house to the west. You'll have time to work on crafting as you travel. When you arrive, talk to the scavengers here, and do some selling, as you're a legend with them. Buff up and enter the caves. Open the door down here and proceed through.

Loot this body here and take a diary to earn:

  • So these are the ruins of Telema?

    Find what happened to Hector

Try to read it. If you have a spy, you might be able to. If you do not cast comprehend languages or tongues. We will encounter a fight with some spiders next.

Welcome to the rune room. Go talk to the scavengers outside. Return to the Rune room. You don't have any keys yet, so open the far door, and use the gate. Loot the bookcase on the right to find the Square key and this book:

You'll need to enter each code in this order to pass through the puzzle here and then we will have a hard boss fight. It's technically optional, but gives an achievement. Loot the rest of this room and leave. The Anvil sword here is truly amazing for a one-handed paladin and good for anyone else, too. Put the square key in the gate room.

Use this button twice to change the last symbol to square and go through the gate a second time. You'll find yourself in a fight with a succubus (like a stronger incubus), a Vrock, and four Vrocklings. This fight could be very easy or very hard. Grab a key and book from the similar bookcase and return. Reading the book will update your bestiary on some demons. Insert the key. Our next sequence is Circle, Square, Triangle. On to the Treasure room. The big deals in here are Sovereign and the Abyssal Agitator. Sovereign is a simple weapon that has important story potential, casts True Seeing, and is very dangerous to fiends. The Agitator is a new way to craft consumables with drawbacks, but it's not important for achievements. They mostly aren't worth applying. Go and rest. If you haven't reached level 12 by this point, you might want to do some random encounters. Set the gate to Circle, Circle, Circle, and prepare for a tough fight with a dragon, Exonaika. SAVE. Cast protection from poison on anyone who needs it.

Exonailka has 350 HP, a poison attack cone doing 14d8 across most of the battlefield, Legendary actions to jump all over the place and a bunch of other tricks. She has legendary saves, but her AC is 21 or lower, so target that. She is immune to acid. The jumping around is the really annoying part of this fight, haste your paladin to deal with that. Defeating Exonaika will earn you:

  • Rest in pieces

    Kill Exonaika

Loot her body. Afterwards, go and rest again. Set the Rune Room to Square, Circle, Triangle. Return to Violet. She sends you to Highrock. Talk to the captain, Miles. Cast True Seeing either with your own spells or the sword. Talk to each suspect. Accuse Weyne. Going for him first earns

  • Among Us

and an easy fight. Afterwards, return to violet. Talk to her, then take the gate to White Rock City. You'll earn:

  • It's a bit cold, isn't it?

    Reach Valkarokkupun

Explore the city and talk to the five clan leaders. Make sure you also talk to Heddlon Surespell, too.

Also talk to Isrid here. You will protect her on an adventure later, but now finish talking to the five clan leaders. Each has a series of quests for us. Let's start with the Central clans. After one random encounter, Isrid decided she had seen enough and I got...

  • Patience you must have, my young adventurer

...when she left alive. Talk to Kara when you arrive. She tells you about three problems. Talk to the merchant to find out about another quest. Talk to the two people Kara sends you to, then take the elevator.

Take a left and talk to this guy with a blue speech bubble over his head. Start tracking his quest "Terror and Abomination." In the back of the Quarry, you'll find some humans and dwarves. After you attack, two waves of three dwarf archers each will appear from far up the slope. Loot the bandits up here to get an interesting letter. (1/2) Read it for an achievement later. Now, get back to "Heat from the Deep." You'll be turned away at the elevator, so follow the map to a different way. Talk to a citizen with an exclamation point over his head.

Return to this spot in the Quarry and gather in the blue box. Expect a fight as soon as you arrive.

Use Sacred Flame to clear the traps down here and check the instructions given to you.

If you get stuck in the tutorial, use the ESC button.

Explore this area, especially the corner back here to further a quest. These two have another important document (2/2). Read it for an achievement later. Attack the frozen lava with a melee weapon, not a thrown weapon. You only need to smash the three that are goals. Be careful, as destroying these will instantly kill any PCs in the lava flow.

With the three caps destroyed, stand on the four runes here.

Leaving each PC on their slab, turn the four gears like this one. Line the gears up with the lines on the ground. Now, we need to clear the blockades. One of them will be the way out. It will be cold weather outside, so equip a torch. Stand back and use Sacred Flame to bring down the bridge. Ahead, save the dwarves and fight the Abominations, who are weak to fire. Take a long rest. Return to Kara. If you collected all the evidence, then use all four arguments to unlock

  • Hold up… Let him speak

Use all arguments to defend Gilmar

Return to Isrid to get a special +3 shield. We will now move on to the Western clan. When you arrive, go to the Elder. He sends you out to a cave in the forest. End Spirit Guardians if you want to avoid a fight. Convince the dragonborn here to leave peacefully and you'll avoid a fight. Once again, opening the chest will start a fight. Return to the elder and follow his directions to the Necropolis. There will be two easy fights, and a quick scene in which you'll get the ring. Return to the Elder. Spend a night in the inn. Return to the Elder's spot and he has disappeared, so take a guy here back to the Necropolis. Don't worry about the guy trailing you, but you will be ambushed. Return to the city for a second fight, then talk to the Elder. Choose "We're not murderers." in this dialogue. Create two SAVEs, One as MURDER PATH and one as Greybear. Go kill Greybear. You can attack him immediately by using Cautious mode with Spirit Guardians active. Killing Greybear will earn:

  • Get off my lawn!

Return to White Rock City. Set your quest tracking to the east and prepare for a long series of easy fights. It will be very cold, so take a short rest and equip some cold-resistant gear. You'll need to protect Captain Ashdown, who starts with only 60 HP, so buff him with Spell Shield if you have it. You'll want to do the optional parts of this quest. Light the beacon and talk to general Blunt. Take a long rest and talk to the General again. Travel into the ambush. There's a fight with some wildlife, then turn off Spirit Guardians and travel up to the top. Parley with the enemy here, it's not worth the small XP.

Return to the Captain. SAVE, then take a long rest. The captain will approach you about overthrowing the General. If you accept, he promises help in the coming fight, but it's buggy and minor. You will be forced to fight her. After the fight and a cutscene, you'll get

  • Look at me. I'm the captain now.

Now, it's time to assault the castle. This could be a long/easy fight or a quick/hard one. I'm going with quick/hard, so we will take the secret passage.

From the start, arrange the camera like I have here and head directly up.

Take a left here so you're going east.

Here is the secret entrance. Buff well before going through. Kill the enemies, including reinforcements. Then, loot and identify the stuff here, including a very nice set of armor and some stuff in a chest. Go out and tell the General what you've done. Return to White Rock City and we'll work on the final clan. Set tracking to the "White Rock City" quest and talk to the three refugees. SAVE, as you'll be committed for a while once you start. Rest at the inn and go talk to Marduk again. Leave the city and you'll get into a fight with a lot of bandits. After you win, SAVE in a new slot. Kill Marduk. Insect Plague is a good spell for this to unlock:

  • Oh my god, they killed Marduk!

    Marduk died!

RELOAD and try to keep Marduk alive. Find and read a note in the wreckage. Travel to Snorri's post house. Enter the hut, prepared for a fight. After the fight, follow the map to the family in hiding. Use paladin's Cure Disease or a Restorative Ointment to cure the mother and earn

  • Women and children first

Now, go out and kill the Remohaz and its offspring. Just like in the main campaign, it's immune to fire/cold and hurts people who damage it in melee. Leave afterwards for "Hunt down the Giants." You'll be in a fight immediately. Save the frost giant and kill the fire giants. Parley with the frost giant and don't kill him. Loot the fire giants for a map. Travel to Icehenge and be prepared for a tough fight. Loot the bodies and then MAKE TWO SAVES. Both the Frost Giant ally and Heddlon the elf want the staff. Do one and then the other, whichever you prefer to earn

I think Heddlon's reward is better, but it's clearly the evil choice. Time to do some shopping in White Rock City, then travel to Turvaamalinn. Speak to Gilmar. Descend the well, and prepare for a fight. Continue down the elevators. You'll want cold resistance and fire weapons in this next fight, which is kind of hard. Grab the guardian on the altar to earn:

  • Can I keep it?

    Retrieve the Guardian

This will also start a fight with five ice elementals and a white dragon. The ice elementals are nasty, but weak to fire. Blast them first. Return to Gilmar. SAVE. This may be the most important save of your life, as their are five choices with incompatible achievements. We are voting! Take the elevator down. You'll have a conversation, then your last chance to SAVE.

First, let's pick Gilmar:

After your choice, you'll have a fight with a bunch of Soraks and Demons, including a Marilith, one of my favorite demons. She has six attacks, so put your tank in front of her, but beware that she can teleport, and has advantage on magic saves.

After the fight, we've reached the point of no return. Sell anything you won't use, and buy what you will use. Stay at the inn. You'll want fire resistance and light spells. Heroes Feast is a great spell to cast before this fight. Be prepared for seven hard fights without a long rest. When you're ready, enter the gate. There are several traps, including immediately in front of you. Disarm them.

In three of the seven fights, you'll face Sessroth the Archreaver. He flies and does not provoke attacks of opportunity. He uses legendary actions to cast Cone of Cold and Fireball, a lot of Fireballs. His melee attack is a Fiery Hammer dealing over 30 damage twice a turn. He can also breathe a Cone of 60 Fire Damage. After the first fight, keep your buffs running into a second fight in the lower left portal. This fight features a Poison King and a few Vrocks, but you'll be helped by ghosts of Blunt and Ashdown. After the fight, walk over to the people in cages to free them and earn:

  • Congratulations, you are being rescued!

Save the royal family of Gallivan

Use a weapon to destroy the pillar and leave. Take the next Left portal for a battle with Succubi and Hezrous. Again, a ghost will help you. After destroying a pillar here and returning, Sessroth will be back, but with lower health. Defeat him again. As last time, killing him will defeat his mooks as well, so focus fire on him. Bottom right portal is next and it's the return of the Marilith. Break the pillar here and get to the final room. Same deal, but after you win, SAVE. One final round with Sessroth and his guest to unlock
